Meaford, Ontario – February 19, 2015 – The recent extreme cold weather in the Municipality of Meaford has been causing an increase in frozen water lines, often in areas where lines have not frozen before.
Some signs of water lines freezing include decreased water flow, low water pressure, and occasional air in the water line. If the lines become completely frozen, all water flow into the home may stop.
To prevent water lines from freezing, residents are encouraged to run one household tap fully open for three to five minutes every night before retiring. If possible, repeat the flushing again during the course of the night as well. If there is air present or a noticeable decrease in water pressure or flow, continue to run the water until the flow rate is back to normal.
For more information, please contact the Municipality of Meaford Environmental Services Division at 519-538-1060. Between the hours of 4:00pm and 8:30am, please call the same telephone number and follow the emergency prompts.
