New Clerk/Director of Legislative Services

Meaford, Ontario – February 7, 2017 – The Municipality of Meaford is pleased to announce that Matt Smith will be joining the staff team as our new Clerk/Director of Legislative Services. Matt rejoins the staff team on Monday, February 27, 2017.
Matt completed a Master of Public Service degree at the University of Waterloo. He has also completed the AMCTO’s Municipal Administration Program and Parliamentary Meeting Procedure course.
His recent work experience included serving as acting Deputy Clerk at the Municipality of Meaford and as the Clerk at the Township of Georgian Bluffs. He has extensive experience as an administrator in both municipal government and higher education, working for municipalities and universities in both Canada and England.
He has been engaged in strategic decision making and provided support to senior decision makers, including Council and committee secretariat services and policy advice. He has been active with the general public, providing the highest possible level of customer service, and driven process improvement, including in records management.
He has developed knowledge and understanding of legislative process, municipal governance and the associated legislation, including the Municipal Act, Municipal Freedom of Information and Personal Privacy Act, and the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act. He has been involved in the running of elections since 1997, including national, local, and European polls working in both polling stations and at count centres.
Matt looks forward to leading the service delivery reviews that remain to be presented in 2017 for legislative services, planning for the delivery of the 2018 election, being a member of the senior management team, working with Council, and serving our community.
