The Municipality of Meaford has a long tradition of being an innovative community in the field of waste management and disposal. Solid Waste Services (SWS) is responsible for coordinating the collection, removal and disposal of waste and recyclables. SWS also tracks all waste collected to measure diversion rates in order to decrease the amount of recyclables and organic materials entering our landfills.
Our goal is the proper promotion and education of the Municipality’s current and upcoming solid waste practices and to ensure that the importance of environmental factors associated with waste disposal are considered.
NEW FOR 2009!!
All waste bags or containers (garbage, recycling, and compost for urban Meaford) will be placed at your curb or roadside the same day each week unless affected by a Statutory Holiday. Waste Collection (garbage, recycling and compost) will no longer be collected on Statutory Holidays, collection that would normally take place on and after the holiday will be collected the following day. These days are identified on the 2009 Schedule, also watch the newspaper and website for collection notices. Garbage and Composting will continue to be collected weekly, while Recycling will continue to be collected bi-weekly. Continually check your Waste Schedule to determine the correct day for your waste collection.

HAVE ALL WASTE BAGS OR CONTAINERS PLACED AT YOUR CURB OR ROADSIDE BY 7:00 A.M.

EFFECTIVE JULY 6, 2009
Each residence (owner or tenant) and business owner is allowed to place a MAXIMUM of TWO (2) bags of garbage not exceeding 18 kg (40 lbs) at the roadside in front of their premises for regular weekly pick up with garbage bag tag affixed. ALL BAGS PLACED OUT FOR PICKUP MUST HAVE A MUNICIPALITY OF MEAFORD BAG TAG AFFIXED that is clearly visible. The contractor has been instructed NOT to pick up any bag(s) without bag tags affixed and clearly visible to the collector. A list of Bag Tag Vendors is available from the list of documents above.
The contractor will not pick up more than TWO (2) bags per week from each residence or business as there is a two bag limit per week, in accordance with Municipal By-law Standards.
