Notice of Flooding and River Ice Movement

The Municipality of Meaford would like to advise residents that river flow has been re‑established this afternoon following an upstream ice release. Municipal crews have been on-site monitoring conditions and conducting clean‑up efforts in the areas impacted by flooding.

Residents are asked to avoid the river and any remaining ice flow, as conditions remain unpredictable and may shift without warning.

Overview

The following impacts have been observed:

  • Localized flooding occurred between the two bridges along the Bighead River.
  • Ice and water overtopped retaining walls near 12 Bayfield Street and adjacent parking lot on Sykes Street.
  • Crews have been working to reopen affected roadways and continue clean-up activities.

Start date: Saturday, March 7, 2026
End date: Sunday, March 8, 2026
Reason for disruption: Ice release and related flooding

Safety Notice

Residents, motorists, and pedestrians are urged to use caution around the river and avoid flooded or icy areas. Fire Services and Municipal staff are on-site to support safety measures, including temporary barricades where required.

Further updates will be provided as they become available.
