Hamlet Tales: Authors Among Us Wraps Up with Harley Greenfield

The Meaford Public Library invites the community to Hamlet Tales: Authors Among Us, featuring Harley Greenfield and his play The Asia’s Gone Down on Tuesday, August 11 at 7:00 p.m. at the Bognor Community Centre (597353 Grey Rd 29, Bognor).

Harley Greenfield, Councillor for the Municipality of Meaford, is a lifelong resident who grew up on a farm west of Meaford and raised his family in the community. With more than 50 years in the construction industry specializing in masonry, he has built a respected career as a business owner. He and his wife, Doris, also operated a farm producing Hereford beef, oats, barley, wheat, and hay.

Elected to Council in 1997, Greenfield played a key role in amalgamation and has served eight terms, including three as Deputy Mayor. His interest in local history is reflected in The Asia’s Gone Down, a play based on the 1882 sinking of the SS Asia on Georgian Bay, the deadliest maritime disaster on the Bay.

The play tells the story of Christina Anne Morrison of Bognor, one of only two survivors, highlighting her courage and ensuring that this local history is remembered.

Advance registration is required as space is limited. Please register by calling 519-538-3500 or emailing libraryinfo@meaford.ca
