Municipality of Meaford Recognizes National Day for Truth and Reconciliation

The Municipality of Meaford will recognize the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation on Wednesday, September 30, 2026.

Also known as Orange Shirt Day, or Every Child Matters Day, September 30 is a time to honour Survivors of residential schools, remember the children who never returned home, and reflect on the lasting impacts of residential schools and colonial policies on Indigenous Peoples across Canada.

“Raising the Every Child Matters flag is one way we pause as a community to acknowledge this history and the responsibility we all share in reconciliation,” said Mayor Ross Kentner. “Reconciliation is not limited to one day. It is an ongoing commitment to listening, learning, reflection, and respectful action.”

To recognize the day, the Municipality will raise the Every Child Matters flag at Meaford Hall and light the water tower orange.

Residents are encouraged to take time to reflect, learn more about the history and legacy of residential schools, and consider how reconciliation can be supported in everyday actions.
