Meaford Council supports Tourism Week in Grey County

Meaford is joining communities, cities, and regions around Grey County to recognize National Tourism Week from May 26 to June 2, 2019.

In 2016, Grey County welcomed 2.7 million visitors who experienced everything from the Scarecrow Invasion and Sweetwater Music Festival to the Big Red Chair Tour. The economic impact to Grey County in 2016 was $333.3 million in visitor spending.

“Meaford welcomes thousands of visitors each year, and our community is home to many tourism businesses that offer authentic experiences.” said Economic Development and Tourism Officer Stephen Murray. “Tourism is an important piece of our economy and supports social, cultural, and recreational benefits for all citizens.”

Operators and communities around Grey County are sharing their Tourism Week celebrations on social media using the hashtags #TourismMattersInGrey and #TourismWeek.

“Whether you’re a local adventurer, a staycation enthusiast or a veteran Visit Grey explorer, Tourism Week allows you to rediscover the amazing hidden gems our region has to offer,” said Grey County Warden Selwyn Hicks. “Tourism is a critical piece our economy. It provides many social, cultural and recreation benefits for the residents of Grey County,” said Hicks.

Residents of Meaford can get involved on social media by using the hashtag #TourismMattersInGrey on their tourism related posts. Photos and posts can include anything from events, nature, visiting a favourite restaurant or experiencing a local winery or brewery to promote why tourism matters in our community. Also, residents can take the Tourist Challenge on to learn how to be a local tourism ambassador.
