Message from Mayor Barb Clumpus

Posted On Friday January 14, 2022

Our planned family skate and meet and greet with the mayor and Council on January 7th had to be postponed, so may I take this opportunity to wish each of you a happy, healthy and very peaceful new year. On January 5th, the Province of Ontario returned to a modified version of Step Two of the Roadmap to Reopen in an effort to combat the increases in COVID-19 cases. This was certainly disappointing, but not unexpected given the rapid progression of the Omicron variant that is causing so many short term hospitalizations right now.

This means we have a number of service updates because our facilities will remain closed to the public until at least January 26th of this year, and the Administration Office on Trowbridge Street will stay closed until January 31st. However, Municipal staff are available and working hard to continue to serve you during this closure by phone and email. Please check out changes to our services by visiting the Open and Closed page on Meaford.ca.

Some good news is that you can still visit the Meaford Public Library. In fact, their hours of operation now include Sundays. Please check out their website to learn about the most up to date COVID-19 safety protocols before you plan your next visit.

One project still underway is updating the Official Plan which is the tool municipalities use to manage change and new growth so that the specific needs of our community are met. This plan will direct us in the important work of being stewards of a vibrant and healthy community and your voice is critical in this. You can participate in an online survey which is now available. This is a great opportunity to share your ideas with us on how to grow this wonderful community. There will be many other chances to participate as well and updates on those opportunities are coming soon.

We are all feeling tired and frustrated with the slide backwards, and we may face more challenges before we see improvements, but we can, and will, conquer them together. Please get fully vaccinated and consider getting the annual flu shot as well, and continue to follow the health protocols, like wearing a mask, keeping your distance and frequent hand washing. Visit COVID-19.ontario.ca to book a vaccination, to download your vaccine passport and be aware of further updates.

I encourage you to promote kindness in your life, to offer support to others, and to lean on your friends and social circles and take advantage of the mental health supports that are out there.

Be well, everyone.
