Voting Method

The upcoming Municipal Election to elect a Mayor, Deputy Mayor, Councillors and School Board Trustees will be held in the Municipality of Meaford between October 12 and 22, 2018.

Electronic Voting

As in 2014, Council of the Municipality of Meaford approved the use of Electronic Voting (Telephone/Internet) for the 2018 Municipal and School Board Elections. With electronic voting, electors can vote anytime and anyplace, by telephone, hand held device, tablet or personal computer.

The Municipality has engaged Dominion Voting Systems to provide the internet and telephone voting systems. Voters can get additional information on the systems, and how to vote, by viewing the Internet Voting Voter Education video or the pdf Telephone Voting Process presentation (423 KB) .

Voting Period Extension

Due to technical issues with our service provider, the Clerk has determined that it is necessary to extend the Voting Period until 8 p.m. on Tuesday, October 23, 2018, in accordance with section 53 of the Municipal Elections Act. Voters can vote online, by telephone or at Municipal Help Centres until 8 p.m. on October 23. Help Centres will be open at 21 Trowbridge St. W from 8:30 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. on October 23, and at the Sydenham Centre at 458372 Grey Road 11 from 1:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.

Help Centres

Voter Help Centres will be set up during the 11 day voting period to assist residents. Eligible electors will be able to register to vote, confirm they are on the voters’ list and access the internet to vote at the Help Centres.

A Help Centre will be available at the Municipality's Administration Building (21 Trowbridge Street West, Meaford) during normal office hours (8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday to Friday). The office will be open extended hours on Sunday, October 14 and Sunday, October 21 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., and until 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 16, Thursday, October 18, Monday, October 22, and Tuesday, October 23.

The Clerk, in his capacity as the Returning Officer has established procedures for the use of an alternative voting method (internet and telephone) and count equipment, in accordance with section 42 (3) of the Municipal Elections Act.

These published alternative voting method and count equipment procedures will form part of the Municipality of Meaford's Election Procedures that will be issued by the Municipality prior to April 30, 2018.

The Returning Officer reserves the right to make administrative changes to the following procedures as necessary, including but not limited to amending the form names and numbers listed.
