 Project Description

This project is for the rehabilitation of approximately 1,030m of Bayshore Road from County Road 15 to the south side of Keefer's Creek. The rehabilitation will include drainage work, repaving of the asphalt road, traffic calming infrastructure and water service updates. A drainage study was completed to outline the existing drainage issues on Bayshore Road. Following the study an engineer was retained to completed design of drainage improvements that will be completed as part of the road rehabilitation project.

During the construction, Bayshore Road will be closed except to through traffic. Residents and property owners will have access throughout the project except when necessary for certain construction activities. It is anticipated that driveways will remain accessible. To learn more about how this project may affect residents in the area, see below for a copy of the Notice of Construction.

Project Timeline and Updates

Engineering studies began in 2021

Construction start date: May 6, 2024

To be completed in 2024:

  • Roadway Paving (weather permitting): the final layer of pavement will be applied to the roadway this year, including entrance paving. Both the contractor and the Municipality aim to complete this, but weather remains a critical factor, and confirmation is not yet possible.
  • Restorations:
    • 359410 Bayshore Road – It needs to be restored to pre-construction conditions, including a hole behind the house.
    • 359409 Bayshore Road – This property is on the corner of Bayshore Road and Market Lane and grading of the back slope of the ditch encroached onto private property. Culvert installed on the north side of Market Lane that would make it easier to restore the property to pre-construction conditions. Additionally, the height of centreline culvert at the intersection that could impact restoration to pre-construction conditions.
  • Park restoration: Park swale long grass and weeds will be mowed.

Tasks to be completed in 2025:

  • Paving (if not completed in 2024): Any remaining roadway and entrance paving will be finalized next year.
  • Hydro Pole Relocations: While we’ve received a preliminary estimate for this work, the timeline indicates that it will not be completed in 2024.
  • Culvert Installations: These can only proceed after the hydro poles are relocated.
  • Final Restorations: After the pole relocations and culvert installations, remaining restoration work will be completed.

Estimated construction end date: TBD 2025

Update - November 14, 2024

  • The contractor plans to pave Bayshore Road Friday, November 15th (weather dependent) and driveways on Monday, November 18th
  • The weather forecast is currently favorable, but the work may be postponed to 2025 if weather conditions are not suitable
    • Temperature is the main concern this late in the season, as there are specific temperature requirements for the paving to be warranted
  • If paving goes ahead:
    • Driveways impacted by the work will also be paved
  • If paving is postponed:
    • Some work will be done on driveways to minimize damage from plowing, until full paving in 2025
