BR 002 Replacement
This project was completed in November 2024.
Project Description |
This structure, over Bothwell’s Creek, consists of a single span, concrete T-beam superstructure with a total deck length of 9.1 metres. The superstructure is supported by concrete abutments. The structure provides a 4.3 metre-wide driving platform between barriers. The 2020 OSIM (Ontario Structure Inspection Manual) Report for this structure recommended replacement within a 1-5 year period. As a result of this time frame and the recommended work being replacement rather than rehabilitation, this structure has a higher probability of asset failure. In the event of asset failure, there would be a service disruption to users of Sideroad 24 that has an AADT (Annual Average Daily Traffic) of 19 vehicles. In 2017 the structure load limit was reduced to 8 tonnes due to the existing condition of the bridge. Failure to replace this structure within the timeframe identified in the OSIM Report will lead to complete closure or asset failure. The 2020 OSIM identified that engineering for this project should be a priority as the bridge accesses a dead-end road and therefore the design process may need to review the need for a temporary bypass bridge, property acquisition, coordination with landowners, and review of alternatives. The bridge is being replaced under the Schedule B Municipal Class Environmental Assessment.
