The objective of this project is to replace deteriorated infrastructure along Sykes Street North from Lombard Street to Collingwood Street, and rebuild the road in accordance with Municipal standards.

 Project Description
Residents and business owners in Meaford and the surrounding area are advised the Municipality of Meaford is proceeding with design work in support of the Sykes Street North Reconstruction, between Lombard Street and Collingwood Street. The project will include the following works:
  • reconstruction of approximately 250 metres of road
  • replacement of concrete curb, gutter and sidewalk
  • improvements to the sanitary and storm sewer systems
  • improvements to the watermain system
  • full reinstatement of all areas disturbed during construction (driveways, boulevards, etc.)
 Project Timeline
Site investigations and preliminary design work are currently underway in August of 2020, with all detailed design and necessary approvals anticipated to be in place by December 2020. Construction is anticipated for Summer 2021, pending agency and/or Council approval.
Home/Business Impacts

Maintaining access to homes and businesses is of the utmost importance to the Municipality. Provisions will be made throughout construction to ensure access to all homes is a priority and uninterrupted to the extent possible. Service disruptions will be minimized, and traffic will be maintained through the project area. Some detours may be required for short durations to facilitate replacement of underground infrastructure.

Access for emergency vehicles and communication with the local authorities (fire, police, ambulance, school board, etc.) will be maintained throughout construction.

Homeowners should remove private landscape features within the right-of-way prior to construction. Homeowners are also encouraged to notify Tatham Engineering Limited and/or the Municipality of any sump pump or downspout discharge pipes, subdrains, sprinklers, underground dog fences, etc. that may be located within the right-of-way and/or may be disturbed during construction.

Public Information Centre
A Public Information Centre is planned for October/November 2020 to provide residents and business owners opportunity to review the proposed design and ask questions prior to construction. A separate newsletter will be circulated to provide notification of the Public Information Centre and provide additional information regarding the location and format.
