Heritage in Meaford
The Municipality of Meaford designated individual properties as Heritage under Part IV of the Ontario Heritage Act, as well as designating a Heritage Conservation District Part V of the Ontario Heritage Act, for the downtown area of Meaford.

The Heritage Conservation Plan and Guidelines is in place to protect the heritage of Meaford's downtown core, encourage the maintenance and upkeep of the buildings, and help promote new developments that respect the character of the existing buildings.
Notice of Public Meeting: Heritage Conservation District Plan and Guidelines Update
The Municipality of Meaford held a Public Meeting on an update to the Meaford Heritage Conservation District Plan and Guidelines (MHCDPG) pursuant to the requirements of Section 41.1 (6) the Ontario Heritage Act, RSO 1990, as amended.
Meeting Date and Time: Monday, July 17, 2023 at 5:00 p.m.
Meeting Location: In-person at 157859 7th Line, Meaford, Ontario (Council Chambers).
Providing Comments: Any person may attend the Public Meeting and/or make written or verbal representation regarding the update to the Heritage Conservation District Plan and Guidelines. All property owners within the proposed District will be notified if a by-law is passed approving the updated MHCDPG. If any other individual wishes to be notified of the decision of the Municipality of Meaford on the update of the MHCDPG, you must make a written request to the Municipality of Meaford, you can do so by emailing planning@meaford.ca or to 21 Trowbridge Street West, Meaford ON.

Heritage Permit Applications
Before you start any work on your property in the Heritage Conservation District or on an individually designated property on the registry, please consult with Planning Staff at the Municipal Office to discuss your project. Note that Heritage Permits are required for several types of minor works, such as signs, repairs and small additions.

Heritage Advisory Committee
The Heritage Advisory Committee advises and assists Council on matters relating to Parts IV and V of the Ontario Heritage Act, 1990, and other heritage matters as Council may specify through by-law or in the Official Plan and Downtown Meaford Heritage Conservation District Plan and Guidelines.
