If you live in the urban area of Meaford, you can keep chickens in your backyard as pets, or to provide food to your household on your residential property. You can only keep hens (no roosters), and their shelter/enclosure must meet the standards of the Zoning By-Law.

How to Apply

To apply to keep backyard chickens, please complete the Backyard Poultry Application Form and submit it to planning@meaford.ca or drop it off at the Administrative Office at 21 Trowbridge Street West, Monday to Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
