The 2020 road resurfacing program includes rehabilitation on these road sections:

  • Sideroad 23 from Sydenham/Lakeshore Drive to 6th Concession North
  • Sideroad 33 from Sydenham/Lakeshore Drive to 8th Concession North
  • 6th Concession South from Grey Road 18 to Sideroad 6
  • St Vincent/Sydenham Townline North of Highway 26 to Sideroad 24
  • Old Mail Road from Grey Road 7 to the granular section of road
Project Scope

The 2020 road resurfacing program includes approximately 6.9 kilometers of surface treatment road rehabilitation and upgrades to improve the condition of the existing road surface.

The work will include:

  • Pulverizing and grinding the existing road surface
  • Vegetation management
  • Replacement of cross culverts and associated drainage works
  • Addition of granular base material
  • Application of double surface treatment.
 Project Timeline

Beginning May 19, 2020 - The existing road surface will be ground in place, which will result in a gravel surface on the following road sections:

  • Sideroad 33 from Grey Road 15 to 8th Concession North
  • 6th Concession South from Grey Road 18 to Sideroad 6
  • St Vincent/Sydenham Townline North of Highway 26

Additional granular material will be applied. This work will take a few days to complete.

Late May to June 2020 - Ditch maintenance, culvert replacements, vegetation trimming.

July, 2020 - Road resurfacing work will begin. The remaining road sections will be ground in place, and double surface treatment will be applied.

Roads will be complete with a new hard surface by the end of August, 2020.

 Traffic Impacts

Efforts will be made to maintain one lane of traffic while the work is taking place, however delays can be expected.

During culvert replacement it may be necessary to fully close the road during daytime working hours and further notices will be provided for these closures.

 Adapting to Road Surface

Even the best maintained gravel roads have rough sections and loose gravel that require lower speeds. Dust can be expected, and dust suppressant will be applied as required during the process.

It takes longer to safely stop on gravel roads, and dust can decrease your visibility.

Please allow at least six seconds of following distance on gravel.

Waste Collection
Waste collection in the area is expected to occur normally.
Noise and Dust

Residents and property owners should expect some noise during construction times.

Residents and property owners should expect dusty conditions during some construction activities however efforts will be made to reduce dust as much as possible.

Budget

The budget for this project is $717,000.
