This new fully accessible ramp and stairs will be compliant with the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA). It will link the Sykes St. sidewalk with the Market Square parking lot.
The design for the ramp incorporates new railings, lighting, landscaping and four new accessible parking spaces in the parking lot. During construction the working area will be fenced off and six (6) parking spaces will be used for construction activities. When the work is complete there will be four (4) new fully accessible parking spaces.
Project Timeline
Construction is planned to begin the week of May 23 and last about two weeks.
Budget
$88,100, $60,000 covered by funding from the Federal Enabling Accessibility Fund, the remaining is covered by reserve funds. Project completion must be by September 30, 2023 to retain funding.
The Midas Mart Building on the corner of Sykes and Collingwood Street in the northwest corner of the Market Square parking lot will be demolished in Summer 2023. The building will be removed and the space will returned to a level grade and planted with grass.
