Airport Renamed to Honour Major-General Richard Rohmer

Last week, The Municipality of Meaford was excited to attend the official renaming of the Major-General Richard Rohmer Meaford International Airport. This name change reflects both the airport’s local significance while it also serves as a tribute to one of Canada’s most respected military figures.

Major-General Rohmer is a decorated war hero as he served with the Royal Canadian Air Force as a fighter-reconnaissance pilot during the Second World War. In addition to his military experience, he is also a lawyer and author. He has contributed to Canadian society in various capacities, earning recognition for his leadership and service in public affairs, military service, and civil aviation.

The Major-General Richard Rohmer Meaford International Airport will continue to serve as a hub for regional flights, private aviation, and potential future developments aimed at enhancing the region’s connectivity and economic landscape.

Mayor Ross Kentner expressed his enthusiasm about the renaming, stating:

“The Municipality of Meaford is welcoming an entirely new industry—one that serves as a powerful economic engine. As the proud home of the 4th Canadian Division Training Centre, we are now honoured to be associated with one of Canada's most distinguished military heroes, Major-General Richard Rohmer.”
