The Municipality of Meaford is proud to celebrate National AccessAbility Week from May 25 to May 30, 2025. This week is a chance to highlight the steps we are taking to make our community more accessible and welcoming for everyone.
“National AccessAbility Week is an opportunity to recognize the progress we have made as a community and to continue our commitment to making Meaford accessible for everyone,” said Councillor Harley Greenfield, Chair of Meaford’s Accessibility Advisory Committee. “Flying the AccessAbility flag and lighting the water tower are powerful symbols of our dedication to inclusivity.”
This week, Meaford residents are invited to explore how the Municipality is working to remove barriers and support inclusion. Learn more about our accessible spaces and services, the Meaford Moves+ transit program, and how our Accessibility Advisory Committee and Multi-Year Accessibility Plan are helping shape a more accessible future for all.
Celebrating Accessibility in Meaford
The Municipality is working to make Meaford more inclusive through improvements and community support. Here are some of the ways we’re doing that:
-
Accessible Infrastructure: The Municipality continues to enhance accessibility through key improvements, including a newly installed accessible front counter at the Municipal Office, accessible beach mats at Fred Raper Park, accessible washrooms at many public beaches and parks across the municipality, and ramp upgrades at several municipal facilities to improve access for all residents and visitors.
-
Accessible Transit: Meaford Moves+ is a door-to-door transit service for people with mobility challenges. It helps people get to medical appointments, go shopping, attend events, and do other everyday tasks. The service is free to register for, and it’s open to residents who qualify.
-
Community Involvement: Community members can also share their ideas and experiences by completing the Customer Feedback on Accessibility Form, or recognize individuals, businesses, or organizations that go above and beyond to support accessibility by submitting an Accessibility Recognition Program Nomination Form. Both forms are available on the Municipality’s accessibility webpage at meaford.ca/accessibility.
-
Red Shirt Day: On Wednesday, May 28, everyone is encouraged to wear red to show support for accessibility. Post a photo on social media using the hashtag.
-
Visual Symbols of Support: The AccessAbility Week flag will fly at the Meaford Hall flag poles, and the Meaford Water Tower will light up in blue and yellow to raise awareness.
The Municipality encourages everyone to learn more about accessibility and take part in building a more welcoming Meaford for all. To learn more, visit meaford.ca/accessibility.
