Meaford Fruit Growers Receive Significant Government Investments
Meaford, Ontario – The governments of Ontario and Canada are investing in two major fruit producers in the Meaford area, supporting local innovation and growth in the agricultural sector. Through the Growing Future Opportunities Initiative, part of the Sustainable Canadian Agricultural Partnership (Sustainable CAP), Meaford's GH Lambe and Son Limited and Vail's Orchards Inc. are receiving up to $50,000 each to help expand and modernize their operations.
"Our local fruit farms are essential to the Municipality’s vibrant agricultural and agri-tourism economy," said Mayor Ross Kentner. "This support will go a long way in ensuring the long-term sustainability and growth of this important sector in our community."
The Growing Future Opportunities Initiative is providing a total of $4.4 million in funding across Ontario to help fruit producers.
The Sustainable CAP is a $3.5 billion, five-year investment by federal, provincial and territorial governments to boost competitiveness, innovation and resilience across Canada's agriculture and agri-food industries. This includes $1 billion in federal programs and a $2.5 billion cost-shared initiative delivered by the provinces and territories.
