“Today is a time to pause, reflect, and remember those whose lives have been forever changed by workplace incidents,” said Mayor Ross Kentner. “Lowering our flags is a visible reminder that every worker deserves to return home safe at the end of the day, and that health and safety must always remain a shared responsibility.” 

Health and safety are core priorities for the Municipality of Meaford and are embedded into everyday operations across all departments. The municipality works to create and maintain safe workplaces through regular training, hazard awareness, policy compliance, and continuous improvement of safety procedures. Staff are encouraged to identify risks, report concerns, and take an active role in maintaining a culture where safety comes first. 

By recognizing the National Day of Mourning, the Municipality of Meaford reaffirms its commitment to protecting the well-being of employees, contractors, and the broader community, and to ensuring that lessons learned lead to safer workplaces for everyone. 

The community is encouraged to take a moment of reflection on April 28 and to consider the role each of us plays in promoting health and safety at work and in our daily lives.
