Beginning in early August, road resurfacing will start on select Municipal roads. The resurfacing is being completed by Duncor Enterprises Inc. and will consist of Micro-Surfacing which is a process where a mixture of emulsified asphalt cement and aggregate are placed on top of the existing roadway to seal the surface, provide a uniform driving surface, and extend the life of the road.

Road resurfacing is scheduled based on information within the Road State of the Infrastructure Report and the Pavement Condition Index (PCI) as measured by StreetScan. It is important that maintenance intervals are met to prevent future higher cost repairs. The following road sections are planned for resurfacing in 2023:

  • 7 Sideroad from Grey Road 7 to 7th Line
  • Bayshore Road from Structure 020 to Sideroad 18
  • Fligg Crescent from 11th Line to the end
  • Gerald Short Parkway from 12th Line 1st Concession
  • Hulbert Court from The Blue Mountains-Meaford Townline to the end
  • Margaret Street from St. Vincent Street to Richmond Street
  • Muir Street from Grey Road 7 to Highway 26
  • Old Highway 26 from highway 26 to the end
  • 12 Sideroad from 11th Line to Grey Road 112

Impacted roads will remain open while work is being completed, however traffic delays are to be expected. Drivers are asked to be patient and careful when driving through construction zones and areas where people are working on or near the road.  Duncor Enterprises Inc. will be distributing notices to residents on impacted roadway at least 48 hours prior to starting work. A general Notice of Construction is available at www.meaford.ca/RoadResurfacing.

The 2023 Capital Budget includes road resurfacing for approximately 16 km of roadways within the Municipality with a portion of the funding from the Canada Community-Building Fund (formerly the Federal Gas Tax Fund). The Canada Community-Building Fund is a permanent source of federal funding for local infrastructure. Municipal government face the challenge of maintaining the local infrastructure that “delivers the water we drink, connects our families and communities, and brings us together for recreation and play” (Canada Community-Building Fund, 2023).
