Council appoints members to advisory committees and boards at the beginning of their term, and when there is a vacancy. The Appointment Policy outlines the process followed for appointments.

Council members are also appointed to various groups at the recommendation of the Mayor. This process is governed by the Procedural By-law.

Most committee and board positions are voluntary, with no remuneration.

General Requirements

  • All applicants must live, work or own a property or business in the Municipality of Meaford.
  • Applicants for the BIA Board must be owners or tenants of commercial property within the BIA.
  • Applicants must not be employed by the Municipality of Meaford.

 Economic Development Advisory Committee
Terms of Reference

The Economic Development Advisory Committee advises and assists Council and staff on matters relating to economic development, using the Economic Development Strategic plan as a framework for prioritizing and making recommendations.

  • Required: 6 Members
  • Meetings: 6 Times a year, generally on Wednesday afternoons
 Community Policing Advisory Committee
Terms of Reference

The Meaford Community Policing Advisory Committee advises the detachment commander of the local Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) detachment of the objectives and priorities for police services in the Municipality. Additionally, it provides advice to Council on matters of community policing in the municipality.

  • Required: 1 Member
  • Meetings: Approximately 4 Times a year
 Heritage Committee

Terms of Reference

The Heritage Advisory Committee advises and assists Council on matters relating to Parts IV and V of the Ontario Heritage Act, 1990, and such other heritage matters as Council may specify through by-law or in the Official Plan and Downtown Meaford Heritage Conservation District Plan and Guidelines. The Advisory Committee meets as required to review applications for heritage permits and may also recommend to Council opportunities for protection of heritage properties or areas.

  • Required: 1 Member
  • Meetings: At least twice per year on the second Wednesday of the month, or at such other time as required.
