2022 Municipal Elections 

We're already planning for the next municipal election, which will be held in October 2022. 

The Municipality of Meaford will be voting in-person or by mail. If you would like to be notified when the vote-by-mail registration starts, e-mail elections@meaford.ca or call 519.538.1060 ext. 1110. Who can vote in the elections?

Anyone can vote in a municipal election who, on the day of the election, is:
  • 18 years of age or older
  • a Canadian citizen; and
  • either a resident of the municipality or a property owner or tenant or the spouse or same sex partner of an owner or tenant in the municipality during a specified time just before the election.
 

Who can be a candidate?

Candidate must be a resident of the municipality or a non-resident owner or tenant of land in the municipality or the spouse of such non-resident owner or tenant; and
  • a Canadian citizen and at least 18 years old
  • not legally prohibited from voting; and not disqualified by any legislation from holding municipal office
  • you will need 25 signatures on your nomination form and must pay a fee of $100 ($200 for Mayor)

Sections 88.25 and 88.32 of the Municipal Elections Act require all candidates to file a financial statement by March 29, 2019. Candidates whose campaign contributions and total expenses are more that $10,000 must also file an auditor's report. 

2018 Campaign Finance Declarations

 

Compliance Audits

If a qualified elector believes on reasonable grounds that a candidate has contravened the Municipal Elections Act relating to election campaign finances, they can make an application for a compliance audit, which will then be considered by the Compliance Audit Committee.

 2018 Official Election Results 

The Clerk has declared the official election results for the 2018 election in accordance with the Municipal Elections Act. Of 10,309 eligible voters, 4,515 votes were cast for a voter turnout rate of 43.8%. There were two blank ballots, and zero declined ballots.
