Getting married in Ontario? You need a licence from any municipality. Here’s how to get yours in Meaford.

How to Apply

  1. Complete the Marriage Licence Application Form

    • Must be signed by both parties

  2. Bring your application to the Municipal Office

    • 21 Trowbridge Street West, Meaford (8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m., Monday to Friday)
    • One or both applicants must be present
    • Appointments strongly recommended
  3. Provide valid identification for both people

    • One government-issued photo ID

    • One original proof of identity (e.g. birth certificate or valid passport)

    • Non-English/French documents must be translated by a certified translator

    • Photocopies are not accepted
  4. Pay the licence fee: $140

    • Accepted: debit, cash, or cheque (payable to the Municipality of Meaford)

Additional Requirements

  • If using a P.O. box, provide your 911 (physical) address

  • If living on a military base, include barrack and room numbers

  • You must list the location of your ceremony (municipality + county)

Special Circumstances

Additional documentation may be required if:

  • You were previously divorced (in Canada or internationally)

  • You are under 18 years old

  • You are a widow or widower

  • Your documents are in a language other than English or French
