Call for Volunteers

Meaford, Ontario – January 21, 2019 – Do you have expertise, experience or energy to share? Are you looking for a way to give back to your community? The Municipality of Meaford is seeking volunteers to participate on advisory committees and other boards.

Applicants must live, work or own property or business in the Municipality of Meaford. Applicants for the Business Improvement Area (BIA) Board must be owners or tenants of a commercial property within the BIA.

Applications are available online at or can be picked up at the Municipal office at 21 Trowbridge Street West. The deadline for applications is Friday, February 8, 2019 at 4:00 p.m.

There are currently positions available for the following boards and committees:

Accessibility Advisory Committee

The Accessibility Advisory Committee fulfills its duties as outlined in the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act, 2005 and provides advice to Council on programs, policies and services provided to persons with disabilities and seniors.  The Advisory Committee meets six times per year usually on the first Wednesday of the month

Required: 4 members with at least three who self-identify as having a disability

Meetings: 6 times a year, first Wednesday of the month at 2:00 p.m.

Business Improvement Area (BIA) Board of Management

The BIA Board manages BIA activities, including events and downtown beautification. Board members must be owners or tenants of commercial property in the BIA.

Required: up to 4 members

Meetings: 6 times a year, generally on the 3rd Wednesday at 8:00 a.m.

Heritage Advisory Committee

The Heritage Advisory Committee is to advise and assist Council on matters relating to Parts IV and V of the Ontario Heritage Act, 1990, and such other heritage matters as Council may specify through by-law or in the Official Plan and Downtown Meaford Heritage Conservation District Plan and Guidelines. The Advisory Committee meets as required to review applications for heritage permits and may also recommend to Council opportunities for protection of heritage properties or areas. The group meets at least twice per year on the second Wednesday of the month or at such other time as required.

Required: 4 members with built heritage, local history, architecture and/or planning experience as well as knowledge of legislation, the district plan and guidelines.

Meetings: Scheduled as needed, generally 2-4 per year

Community Policing Advisory Committee

New for this term of Council, the Community Policing Advisory Committee serves as an advisory body to the Meaford OPP Detachment Commander regarding objectives and priorities for police services in the community.

Required: 4 Members

Meetings:  3-4 times per year, dates and times to be determined.
