The Municipality of Meaford recognized the dedicated service of Mayor Ross Kentner and Councillor Harley Greenfield during Council’s October 5 meeting as both members prepare to retire from municipal office at the conclusion of this term.
On behalf of staff and the community, Council members were thanked for the time, leadership, and commitment they have contributed to the Municipality of Meaford.
Mayor Ross Kentner joined Council in 2018 following a distinguished career in broadcasting and was elected Mayor in 2022. During his time on Council, he championed collaboration, respect, and strong working relationships between Council and staff.
In his remarks, Mayor Kentner expressed pride in serving alongside a Council committed to working together in the best interests of the community.
Councillor Harley Greenfield was first elected in 1997 and has served the community for more than 26 years. Throughout his tenure, he played a significant role in the amalgamation of the former municipalities and contributed to numerous community-building initiatives and Council decisions that helped shape Meaford.
In recognition of his service, Councillor Greenfield received a token of appreciation from municipal staff and a Certificate of Recognition on behalf of Ontario Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing Rob Flack.
Reflecting on his years of service, Greenfield emphasized the importance of listening to residents and ensuring all voices are represented in local government.
Both Mayor Kentner and Councillor Greenfield recognized the support they received from their families throughout their years of public service. Their spouses were acknowledged for the important role they played in supporting their spouses’ commitment to municipal government.
“Communities cannot thrive without individuals who are willing to dedicate their time and energy to public service,” said CAO Shawn Everitt. “Through their leadership and participation, Mayor Kentner and Councillor Greenfield have helped ensure Meaford remains a strong, vibrant community while maintaining the character that makes it unique.”
The Municipality of Meaford extends its sincere thanks to Mayor Kentner and Councillor Greenfield for their years of dedicated service and wishes them both a fulfilling retirement.
