Meaford Hall Exhibit Launches “Our Communities, Our Stories” for 25th Amalgamation Anniversary

The Municipality of Meaford is pleased to announce the opening of Our Communities, Our Stories, a special gallery exhibition at Meaford Hall Arts & Cultural Centre, celebrating the 25th Anniversary of the Amalgamation of the Municipality of Meaford.

“Our communities have deep and meaningful histories, and this exhibit honours the people and places that built the foundation of today’s Municipality of Meaford. As we mark the 25th Anniversary of Amalgamation, it’s important that we celebrate both our shared identity and the unique heritage of the Town of Meaford, St. Vincent, and Sydenham.”
– Mayor Ross Kentner

Opening on December 16 and running until January 31, the exhibit invites residents and visitors to explore the rich histories of the Town of Meaford, Township of St. Vincent, and Township of Sydenham, three communities that united in 2001 to form the present-day Municipality of Meaford. The exhibit will be in Meaford Hall before it travels throughout the municipality in 2026, participating in community events to honour the communities and educate on the rich history of the area dating back to 1820.

Developed with the Meaford Museum, the exhibit showcases:

  • Historic photographs and artifacts

  • Interpretive panels exploring the identity and stories of 30 hamlets and villages

  • Archival materials reflecting Meaford’s evolution over time

About the Amalgamation

In 2001, the Town of Meaford, the Township of St. Vincent, and the Township of Sydenham were brought together as one municipality. This change happened through Ontario’s municipal restructuring process, creating a single community with shared services and governance.

In 2026, we are celebrating 25 years since that amalgamation. Throughout the year, we will reflect on the history of the former townships and honour how they shaped the community we know today. We are also highlighting the villages and hamlets that make the Municipality of Meaford what it is today, while looking ahead to building our shared future together.

The Municipality invites all residents, visitors, and history enthusiasts to experience Our Communities, Our Stories and join in celebrating this milestone year.
